Happy Wine Day.

Yesterday's piece in the Joongang Ilbo was compiled from the October 5th post "What's wrong with 'Full Moon Festival' or "Korean Mid-Autumn Festival'?" which dealt with the trend of calling Chuseok "Korean Thanksgiving." Bigger fish to fry, I know, but I don't always like to tackle huge issues. Besides, there are some non-topical posts I'd like to save for weeks that I anticipate I'll be too busy to blog much.

Oh, and happy Wine Day. The 14th of each month is a holiday in Korea, and October 14th is Wine Day. Here are some shoppers at a Seoul E-Mart today:

And don't forget October 31st is "Ace Day," named after a brand of crackers and created to steal the thunder from a Western holiday. Next month's holiday is "Movie Day" and December has two: "Hug Day" and "Money Day." As ROK Hound said the last time I posted about this, most of these holidays are new inventions, and with the exception of Valentine's Day, White Day, Ace Day, and Peppero Day on November 11th, I've never heard of these occasions being marked.

I've always thought Chuseok was much more like Dia de los Muertos than anything else.

I have never heard of Ace Day or Money Day. Do I get to choose whether I am a giver or receiver on Mondey Day?

My first two years in Korea I didn't hear a thing about Ace Day. But the third year everyone at my school was big into it, for some reason.

I'm pretty sure Money Day is a new invention. I looked through the list available on Naver when I posted about these back in February, and though I didn't list all of them, I'm pretty sure I didn't see Money Day on there.
