Comedienne Cho Hae-ryun has a plan: by March 2013 she wants to be a fixture on the Oprah Winfrey show, eliciting gales of laughter from the audience each time she comes on. Cho is studying English with a personal tutor as if her life depended on it to expand her sphere of activity to the United States. It is her second such campaign, the first being to learn Japanese to conquer the island country four years ago.
I don't know if she has any English ability. This clip suggests that she doesn't, but she could just be playing dumb at hearing the goofy sounds made by bizarre foreigners for comedic effect, as is common in Korea.
Four years ago, Cho set out for Japan armed with only minimal knowledge of the language. She felt the need for a new challenge, and she alighted on Japan. Establishing a career there was not easy.
I'm a little tired of the military language: "campaign," "conquer the island country," "armed."
Anyway, it appears this news is about six months old, though that article says she wants to do it by 2016. Oh, this one says 2019. In this video, around 4:00, she offers up some more "English" for your amusement. I, too, can think of nothing funnier than speaking a foreign language! Unless it's a man dancing to a song by a female singer. That cracks me up every single time.
