That's a hell of a troll job.

I have to tip my hat, this is a fine piece of work in the Korea Times this evening.
As someone who has tutored a lot in Itaewon, Seoul, and worked with a lot of Koreans over my illustrious career, one thing distresses me to no end when I'm working in Korea: Canadian flags.

They're everywhere. They're sewn onto the backpacks of numerous drunken Canadians staggering in and out of nightclubs. They're being waved by loud Canadians in the bars in Itaewon.

They're on the clothing of Canadians selling marijuana. They're all over the place, kind of like Canadian English teachers with fake diplomas.

Brought to you courtesy of The Marmot's Hole. I am distressed that the KT chose this over my response to Park Nam-sheik's comments on native speaker English teachers, though. Maybe next week.

I also, in all seriousness, need to fire off some emails to the editors over there, because this is ridiculous. Any native speaker copyeditor would not have okayed this letter, the numerous ones that are obvious fakes, or the garbage rants we see with increasing frequency, and you'd think any Korean copyeditor worth his salary would disapprove of stuff like this. The KT is still a good source of news, but its reputation is severely damaged when it prints stuff like this on its opinion page.

Snort. Do you remember a while back the ad run in the back of a free Seoul magazine about an international friendship group forming but Canadians were not allowed? (A troll actually written by a Canadian.) It made Jay Leno. I met the guy who wrote the ad too. Clever.

Yeah, though, what a stupid letter to run in the KT.

Wow, the Ron Jeremy, taking time off of his porn career to write a letter to the Korea Times about Canadians.

And it must really be him, because in the letter he notes that he lived in California, has a mustache, and is of a Jewish background.

The laugh is on the Korea Times. Someone decided to see how low the KT would go, and the KT fell for it.

I agree with the author about fellow Canadians and their flags, but such an opinion is fodder for blogs. KT is a crap newspaper. I refuse to read it. There is no international news whatsoever. Whenever I'm in Seoul, I splurged for the New York Times.

I'd like to see if the KT would print the fake personal ad I once placed in the Seoul Classifieds magazine (actually mine and two other co-workers, placed WAY outrageous ads on a bet).

I wonder which of those original three ads would be printed in the Community Classifieds thingamabobber?

Well, we DO like our flag... he's got that part right.

I like that someone pointed out in the comments how few of us there really are. There are more South Koreans than there are Canadians, total.

What the KT will publish continues to amaze me.

I mean this completely seriously: Korea had a much better group of foreigners before Canadians were given six-month tourist visas.

You were here in the early 90's?

ROK Hound, I've been living in Korea off and on since I was a teenager. I know where all the bodies are buried. I've known or known of some esteemed K-bloggers since they were getting arrested for street brawls. Kushibo knows too much, and that's why the man is trying to take kushibo down.

Funny stuff.

I'm so glad that there isn't any excessive flag-waving in any other country in the world....

p.s. Here's a little known secret: Wearing a maple leaf doesn't necessarily mean that the wearer is Canadian.... Sort of like those high school boys with Brazilian soccer jerseys. I'll bet they aren't really from Brazil, eh?
