I mean, my general response is that people should think more carefully before they put something out there in the first place, and I've seen a handful of people jump in way over their heads at places like Marmot and Dave's... but then, every once in a while, a pile-on occurs that strikes me as disproportionate to the actual degree of stupidity one has put on display.
My general advice when I hear about people getting hurt by netizens is 1. think before you post, 2. grow a thicker skin...
for me, I'm still holding the Korea Times more to blame for printing stuff that doesn't deserve to be printed, than Hayden for underestimating how dumb his article actually was, and how people would respond.
I'm sure the backlash against Hayden would have been far less had he not already had a blog (with OTHER unpopular viewpoints).
By bringing his opinions to a public forum like the paper, he just painted a target on his forehead for those that disagree with him (in this case a whole host of people) to google him and track him down.
If you're going to put yourself out there, and put out extreme views of one kind or another, you can't then complain that the crazies tracked you down and are calling you bad names.
I put it right. There's a bot watching the write-up and will remove any wordpress/blogger urls posted by a user not logged in (ie from an IP address). I think stafford from an IP only address tried to fix it and the bot hacked out the url. If the Toronto ranter comes back again, the bot will probably take care of it.
(Ugg. This is suckin' me back into wiko ^_^ I've nearly abandoned wiki like I've abandoned Dave's... there are only slightly fewer tards on wiki.)

The guy was a caustic combination of denial, smugness, and hateful bigotry. He's asking for a cyber ass-whooping.
My fear for him (or anyone who makes enemies of people take too seriously the fact that others in the blogopshere might have differing and even offensive opinions) is when/if someone decides to hurt him or his family, or get him fired, or somehow reach out and touch him in the real world.
That's happened to me several times over the past decade, even though I'm such a lovable guy.
I haven't listened to your podcasts, but that person's behavior seems out of line. If you ever need a character reference, Brian, I'd be happy to vouch for you.
And thanks for the heads up, This is Me Posting. The guy is certainly enthusiastic about his work, and has done his homework on me. What always gets me about my foreign critics---I assume this guy is a foreigner---is that they keep reading my stuff, even though they claim to hate it so much. You'd think they'd just give up and move on, or at least focus their attention on something else.
