Gwangmyeong mayor: “When I visited Washington D.C., I saw niggers swarm all around the city. How can you live in such a scary place?"

I'm sorry I let April 1st pass without reposting this. Korean story here. "워싱턴에 갔었는데 깜둥이들이 우글우글하더라. 그 무서운 곳에서 어떻게 사느냐?"

“When I visited Washington D.C., I saw niggers swarm all around the city," he said. "How can you live in such a scary place? I was so afraid that I didn’t come out of my hotel at night.”

Sadly, a far more widely held view than it should be, particularly among the older generations.

Also sadly, not limited to Koreans. My friend "S" from Osaka wrote this (which I wrote up in another comment):

I live in the dorm the same as the arrangement of previous dorm where I lived last semester.
So there is two room and 3 roommates except me.
All of them are black, so I was little upset at the first because I was considered this area is dangerouse place, right?

What's dismaying about S is that she is in her early 20s, not some older generation that grew up with American movies and their own negative portrayal of Blacks until relatively recently but haven't kept up as America suddenly became all PC.

But I think a lot of Americans, sadly, have not changed their beliefs but just learned to keep their mouths shut when appropriate.

At any rate I tried to sum up that East Asian stereotype exemplified by S, the Kwangmyŏng mayor, and the half dozen or so Chinese students who told me they chose to study in Hawaii because there aren't any Black people here in this "Person on the Street" post by way of "Liu Jianzhong," who says of the election of Obama: "It is good. A Black man in the White House means one less Black man roaming the streets when I visit America."

Off-topic, but I can't get to your site. A content warning pops up and because of some kind of error my computer gets, I can't click through. It's been like that since yesterday.

That may or may not have been part of Gerry's takeover of my site yesterday. Try now.
