They had a bellybutton festival in Gangwon-do.

So they had a bellybutton festival in Gangwon-do's Yanggu county (양구 배꼽축제) from the 8th through the 16th, and one of the attractions was the unveiling of a manmade island in the shape of Korea. I wonder if people on Jeju are insulted that the Liancourt Rocks are often depicted as half the size of the country's biggest island.

(1, 2)

Other attractions included bellydancers (1, 2, 3)

and white people (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Elsewhere in Gangwon-do there's a peninsula that people say is shaped like Korea, and we saw last year there's a golf course in Taebaek, Gangwon-do that has a sand trap shaped like the Korean peninsula.

I sure hope the photographer got everyone's permission. Wouldn't want to be arrested as a perv or anything. Oh, wait, only brown people get arrested for that.

We (white people) really need to lose some bloody weight.

Built for nationalist sentiments or not, that island looks pretty darn cool.

You're right, Huge. Though twenty or thirty extra pounds does help fill out that bikini top and help keep these photographers in business, I wonder if white people are attractions because they're so blubbery. Then again, how often do you see a twenty- or thirty-something Korean woman with any muscle tone?

I don't see much muscle tone in those photos Bri!

Going to a Korean gym won't net you a lot of muscle tone sightings either.

It's more insulting for people from Baengnyeongdo (백령도), which is just about as big as Ulleungdo but located to the west.

Heh..

If you rush to Gwangwhamun Plaza you might still be able to see the Mugungwha wired and trimmed into the shape of Korea...

How they didn't manage to get the biggest blossom where Seoul would be, I don't know.
