I don't really care if they plant their flag or not, but why lie that Japan did it too.

Compare the images... Aren't they too similar? You can easily create the image with Photoshop.
Well, I'll be darned. That does look exactly like the Korean flag was photoshopped into a Japanese flag.
So that's at least one photoshop, but one of the photos cm linked to is not there anymore (I thought it showed a Japanese coach but I could be remembering it wrong) and I had found this photo which looked authentic before I posted that link, and all that lent credibility to the first photo.
After seeing your evidence, though, I looked around a bit and it appears that the flag-laying "ceremony" was after the final win, perhaps when it's more appropriate to "claim" a field.
But that kind of ceremony, if that's what the Japanese team was doing, still seems to be along the same lines. I can't imagine this was an official part of the WBC's planned closing, since laying down an American flag like that (had the US team won) would be all wrong.
I don't really care if they plant their flag or not, but why lie that Japan did it too.
Anyway, Msta, after I get done with class, I'll look into this a little bit more and if I'm satisfied that there is no evidence of a full-blown flag-planting, I will retract what I said about it on my own blog and give you credit. Even if they did plant a flag somewhere, I'll point out that the photo I published is a photoshop fake.
That photo was taken when Japan won the final match against Cuba in 2006 right? Nothing against Cuba or of course Korea.
Korea seems to do flag-planting only when they beat Japan.
If Japan had done flag-planting and that's just to taunt Korea or any other countries, shame on them. That's not sportsmanlike. But what Japan did in 2006 when whey won the final match and what Korea is doing when they beat Japan are two different things I think.
I don't disagree with you, Msta. If the flag-planting was just to taunt Japan, it's unsportsmanlike. Ditto with the trash-talking from Ichiro that preceded it and, if true, his apparent use of an ethnic slur.
Korea's team and fans need to clean up their act. From what I'm seen, I can say the same for some on Japan's team and quite a few Japanese fans.
Physician, heal thyself.
That said, I think the idea of their being an inter-country league across East Asia would be a good idea. I think more frequent encounters would actually curb some of the heightened hypersensitivity. It would provide more chances for wins and losses and people could focus on good players on all sides instead of scoring fake nationalism points.
And Msta, I gave you credit on my blog for the photoshop call. Thanks.
The person who photoshoped the Korean flag into Japanese flag knew what he/she was doing. There are some people who are really obsessed with making Japan look bad. Journalists who always write about Ichiro insulting Korea might be just the same.

Fucking terrible. Now I have to hear about Korea and baseball and Japan for ever.
Eh... didn't the Padres or the Pirates recently whip Korea's butt in an exhibition game? Handy retort to keep in your pocket.
Hey. Some of my ancestors were pirates.
Marmot's Hole commenter cm points to pictures of the Japanese team also doing flag-planting.

Because some people get a real kick out of making things up or just having a little fun.

Let's just enjoy watching the game.
Good luck to Team Korea and Japan tonight.
