This has become big news today. Back in January a student beat up a classmate for spreading rumors about her. A group of friends looked on and filmed it, and ultimately uploaded it and the girl's personal information to the internet. Here it is
About a year ago, Gusts of Popular Feeling looked at similar cases of bullying and humiliation in Korean schools, a post which leads off with the story of Korean students in New Zealand who tortured a classmate for an hour.

Bullying in class is a serious issue, along with excessive and sometimes wanton or indiscriminate corporal punishment by teachers.
Koreans for the most part are quite aware that these go on and most think they must be stopped, but I think the real problem is that most people are at a loss as to how to stop it.
In other words, it's not a lack of will as much as a lack of ideas.
I have taught in a university setting (which has its own ethical issues, but violence is not usually one of them, though sexual harassment and coercion of sexual favors do occur), not a primary or secondary school environment, so any ideas I have might not be applicable.
For those of you who work or worked in a K-12 environment, what ideas would work to deal with (a) bullying by other students and (b) excessive or indiscriminate corporal punishment by faculty?

No, apparently it was uploaded there first, then copied to other Korean sites. It's being removed from places pretty quickly.
