"Super Star K" show in Seoul on Monday for blacks and whites.

If you want to go to Hongdae on Monday, see Korea's "American Idol," see Lee Hyori, and are either black, white, or half-Asian, then here's the party for you, as Mnet will be filming an episode of "Super Star K" (슈퍼스타K) in front of foreign-looking people.
SORRY THIS EVENT IS ONLY FOR NON-ASIANS DUE TO THEIR PROGRAMMING CONCEPT OF WHITES & BLACKS & HALF ASIANS ONLY...

. . .
IMPORTANT: This event is ONLY for caucasians, blacks, and half Koraens due to their programming concept of having non-Korean audiences. This is due to their programming concept of how Non-Koreans react to the performances by the singers.

The Facebook event page says it will be at Hongdae's Oversound and will have free drinks. Presumably free admission as well. One can also expect unlimited servings of "sangyu sangyu," "hey yo wassup man," and "pacha hanjup!" as producers and viewers at home marvel at Westerners listening to Western music in a Western television show format. Thanks to a reader for the tip.

Can you post a link to this when it airs? I'm interested too in seeing how "blacks and whites" react to Korean music :P ....and if they can fill the place.

People would show up for the free beer.

Yeah, I'm sure clips of this will be online shortly after it airs, and perhaps Mongdori.com or somebody will have the whole thing on youtube.

I was gonna mention this show a few weeks ago because a white guy went to one of the auditions. His name totally slips my mind now, and I can't even remember if he got through (wasn't very good), but I know Hyori and the other two were all, like, "oh no, who's going to talk to the foreigner?" He didn't speak any Korean, so I wonder what he was doing there. Maybe put up to it by some students?

As a black I know how we usually react to Korean pop and rap music and it ain't pretty.

Brian, you are a douche bag and if I ever see you I'm gonna beat your ass.

Why is it that the biggest pieces of shit never have enough common courtesy to reveal their identities. Even the asshole netizen who came after me had an easily-traceable Naver ID. I guess now I'll just have to preemptively punch every Michael I see.

Go to hell.

I'll try my best, but I don't know if I can. Yongsan is a big area. Maybe you could help me with the last couple digits. I only got 122.153.39. Or, you can just go and fuck yourself. Either way. I guess I'll have to go and find which page on Facebook refered you to my site.

Got an update on how this turned out?

You'll probably find some comments on that Facebook page. I haven't looked around for information in Korean, and of course being back home I haven't seen it on TV.

For the record, I'm not outraged by this. I was just pointing out the event as being in line with the tendency to need foreigner approval of Korean things. I thought some of the comments on Facebook, about staging a protest and so on, were out of line and out of touch with what Korea's about. I liked the person's comment about trying to force our ideals on Korea's Confucian society, and about how that's just as insensitive as barring certain types of people.

I can get why Asian-Americans/Canadians would be upset, but come on, Hongdae is practically a Korean-American hangout most of the week anyway. And think about all the nightclubs that DON'T allow blacks or Caucasians in. You don't see any Korean-Americans protesting that. (And for the record I'm not mad about nightclubs excluding whomever they'd like to exclude). Once again it just looks like some people got bent out of shape because things didn't go their way for once.

But "ladies nights" still piss me off . . . ladies get in free, guys pay $15 . . . throw us a damn bone.

And it was quite funny to read a Chinese guy complaining about the restricting use of "woegukin" . . . it's the same in Chinese, after all.

I'm presonally rather indifferent other than thinking that it's rather stupid to manufacture a fanbase that you dont have. Just curious.

It looks though like either there were too many complaints or they just couldnt fill the place cause the facebook page now says "This event is now opened to everyone."

yeah do it Brian, way to feed people with false information. You are really classy, keeping spreading the racism.

Brian said...

Yeah, I know I'm classy, most people think so, and I don't need people like you to tell me. There's no false information in this post---or in any of my posts, for that matter---and I've done nothing to spread racism. I called attention to a party and . . . well, I've explained myself to fattycat already.

As for you, suffice it to say that any further comments from you will be deleted.

Brian, you dont need to explain yourself to me. I just assumed that you were just posting it cause it was interesting. You know I love ya :)

No, I was responding to Michael, and didn't want to explain myself again b/c I had already done so to you.
