Tour de Korea comes to Jeollanam-do.

The Tour de Korea rolled into Gangjin today.

Stage 3 was from Jeong-eup in Jeollabuk-do to Gangjin county in Jeollanam-do. As I mentioned in April, Stage 4 will start tomorrow and go from Gangjin to Yeosu. You can get route information and estimated times for tomorrow here; it will start from the athletic complex just outside of Gangjin-eup and will pass through Jangheung, Boseong, and Suncheon.

Brian,
Good to see someone else interested in this race. Seems there is no outside media interest, especially among the big rags like Velonews or rbr.com.

Hopefully the racing and officiating is good.

Hello,
Thanks for the visit and for the comment. The only reason it attracted my attention a few months ago was because it, and the race they had last month, passed through this part of the country.

As you probably know there's at least a nominal renewed interest in cycling among politicians and citizens, usually with one day a week designated as "bike day." I know Suncheon and Gangjin have them, and every now and then I'll see pictures of politicians on a bike. You probably know better than me, is this a real movement, or just a passing "green" fad?

Yeah, I recall the race a month ago. I was in it. Exciting but scary as heck with all of the rookie riders and all of their carbon bling racing bikes they overpaid for.

I wish I had full confidense that cycling was a lot more than polititian's propaganda for their personal interests but hey, if it makes a dent and nobody gets hurt, great! I wish they would ask outside sources about how to do it (including holding races) so that any momentum can be sustained.

I hope more good than bad comes of this.
