An outstanding Hwasun county high school student killed herself on Friday due to bullying at school,
says the Korea Times. They had a memorial service at school, and a few pictures were up on the news sites. The cameras got right up in there. I wonder who put the "Live life and enjoy it!" pencilcase on her desk.

Flowers also on the desk of the Gwangju 4th grader
murdered last week in Damyang.

"Live life and enjoy it!" pencilcase is certainly ironic, isn't it.
it certainly is.
i wonder what's with the sudden fascination of Korean people with suicide... it's starting to be a trend.
Schools need to invest with good psychiatrists or counselors. Obviously these kids are in trouble.
A student a my school committed suicide last February and the school hushed it up and made it go away. NOONE, and I mean noone, talked about it. I discussed it with my evening students and they were pretty upset that the teachers didn't even want to discuss it.... Go figure, eh?
reijene,
there is nothing SUDDEN about this "trend". Kids have been killing themselves in large numbers for decades, usually over failing their national exams but more and more for physical abuse and bullying.
kathryn,
my last uni had to deal with the suicide death of a foreign teacher. the uni tried their damndest to hush it up and tell people he had to return home to England for an emergency, but the lie didn't last long considering how many students saw a bodybag being loaded onto an ambulance at the teachers' dorm.
ROK Hound.. thanks for that info.
now i'm more worried on sending my kids to school here in Korea!!!
