Construction will start in March and the building is scheduled to be completed in June, 2010. It's going up on and around the site of the old Express Bus Terminal, which closed in August.
Other projects in the city include the new Suncheon Station going up beside the current one, Jorye Lake Park (below) being built next to VIPS around an old reservoir, the Suncheon Eco Valley development project, and the transformation of the city's lengthy stretch of unused train tracks into bike trails and parks.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the depiction of the new cultural center was that it looks like a train wreck. (i.e., a train that's came off the tracks and doubling-up on itself.) I expect it'll look a lot better from the ground though ...
There are a few other pictures at the construction site but I couldn't find them online. Looks pretty good.
Looks good. I probably won't be round long enough to enjoy the new amenities but it's good to see Suncheon moving onward and upward.
How long does it take to get from Mokpo to Suncheon?
The bus from Mokpo to Suncheon stops at every town along the way (six in all, I think) so it takes two-and-a-half to three hours. However, somebody told me you can take the Busan-bound bus from Mokpo, and it will stop in Suncheon and will take about half the time. But I'm not 100% sure about that.
This weekend I went to Mokpo, but first took the bus to Gwangju, then to Mokpo. I think it worked out faster, but that'd be a lot of transfers coming from Jindo.
I'll check on the Mokpo-Busan bus. I'd like to come visit Suncheon sometime.
