Vote for your favorite K-blog in 10 Magazine's poll.

10 Magazine is conducting a poll of readers' favorite English-language K-blogs. Brian in Jeollanam-do was one of the originals on the list, along with the two I consider the best in the business, Gusts of Popular Feeling and ROK Drop. Others on the list, and my blogroll, I enjoy are Monster Island, Chris in South Korea, On My Way To Korea, and Eat Your Kimchi. But don't forget some of the bloggers we like best aren't the big-name ones everybody knows about, but the ones that write their lives in interesting and original ways. If the blog you like isn't on there, click "Other" and write it in; after it gets three write-ins it will be added and those three votes counted. The poll closes on March 15th.

Over the past few days on Facebook and other sites this has become quite a competition, kind of killing the spirit of something probably intended to be completely benign and fun. Of course "favorite blog" is subjective and isn't a category I can really campaign for, but if mine happens to be your favorite, please vote for me and help break me out of the middle of the pack. Or, vote for the ones you like and get them in the top ten and in the April issue of the magazine. I'm not concerned about "winning," but I do hope my 1,500+ daily visitors and 550+ Google Reader subscribers will help me finish strong.

I've read through 10 Magazine a few times, and think it's alright, in spite of being rather Seoul-centric. I recommend the Jeolla event calendar, for South and North Jeolla provinces, as a pretty good resource for people down here wanting to stay active and informed each month.

Not intended as an insult to anybody I didn't mention by name in my post. All the blogs in my blogroll are good in their own ways and for what they do, which is why I'm selective about who I include. I just put the two I like best, plus a few others who have put in some good work lately.

May the best man or woman win . . . and by win I mean get above, like 4% so they get their blog in the top ten.

I also enjoy '10' magazine. I think that it's a really good looking publication. But you're right - it's kind of Seoul-centric. Which is hardly surprising... The way some people talk (Koreans and foreigners) you'd think there was only one city in this country.

Believe it or not, we try very hard not to be Seoul-centric. I gotta tell you though, there's just so much more happening here, with half of the population of the country in or around Seoul.

Actually, when we made the magazine, we thought about just being a Seoul magazine, but we knew that many foreigners around Korea would want a quality magazine with content about what's happening in their area, so we made it national. Since we started Daegu Pockets and Busan Haps have started up and are doing a pretty good job catering to their communities as well. Although I still think our Calendar & Directory section is pretty impressive.

Point taken, Steve. I trust you know your audience a lot better than the rest of us, and have done your homework about what they want. I enjoyed reading through the few issues I got---all the pictures of food made my fiancee sometimes wish she lived in Seoul---and am sure you'll have continued success.

I appreciate the event listings, and I appreciate that a few people over there have asked me to pass along anything else I hear of just to flesh them out, because I think contributions from people actually living in Jeollanam-do (or wherever) are important to that broad appeal. A lot of the events and attractions I posted here were found by just walking around and looking at posters or flipping through the local papers, and were things I probably wouldn't have known about were I halfway across the country. I think the listings are very useful for people outside of Seoul, and of cousre for Seoul residents thinking about planning something.

Thanks for the link. I didn't think a serious blog like this would link to our goofy videos, let alone recommend them to others for the poll.

Serious? Well, sometimes.

I like blogs that are interesting, informative, and original, and your stuff certainly fits. A lot of the "serious" ones suck because they simply "regurgitate the news," as others have said.

By the way, you've been on the sidebar for a while, so I hope that has helped people take notice of what you're doing. Not that you need any help, you've got tons of subscribers and Facebook fans.

Eat your Kimchi,

I visited your blog today, and it was very informative. I might bug you with so many questions. jk

This poll seems to prove that information is not really something many people care about. I'm still scratching my head about the ranking outcome of this poll.
