Yesterday was Gwangju's first snow (첫눈) of the season, getting about a centimeter on Mudeungsan---the mountain in the center of town---and coming sixteen days before last year's first snow.

In Korea it's tradition---I guess for, like, the last four years---to send a text message to your lover when you see the first snow. The people who live in an area with nice weather like Pittsburgh aren't touched by this kind of thing but Koreans can be impressed. Wait, what?
Jeollanam-do does get some snow---Gwangju's first snow last year brought 7.4 centimeters---though I've only seen it a few times here, and never more than a dusting. Here are a few pictures from last year; the first is last year's first snow in Damyang at the Metasequoia Road, and others are from Damyang in December.
