In Korea it's tradition---I guess for, like, the last four years---to send a text message to your lover when you see the first snow. The people who live in an area with nice weather like Pittsburgh aren't touched by this kind of thing but Koreans can be impressed. Wait, what?
Jeollanam-do does get some snow---Gwangju's first snow last year brought 7.4 centimeters---though I've only seen it a few times here, and never more than a dusting. Here are a few pictures from last year; the first is last year's first snow in Damyang at the Metasequoia Road, and others are from Damyang in December.

Blame global warming.
I did think that it was a lot earlier this year than in the past. My garden is now dying, three weeks before I had expected it to here in Daejeon. Now, no more beautiful fresh green beans and sweet corn until next summer.
It will warm up this weekend, at least in Gwangju. Monday's forecasted high was 7, Saturday's is 23.
