Gusts of Popular Feeling has a post on some of the activities commemorating the anniversary of the Gwangju Massacre, which began on May 18th, 1980. He also links to the many he has written before on the topic.
In spite of the solemn occassion, last year people channeled the spirit of the uprising into Mad Bull Shit. This year, the cause some chose to take up was the arrest of truckers' union protestors. Turns out that police don't like it when you attack them with bamboo spears.

Leftist, pro-Pyongyang groups are going to use any issue they can get hold of until they find an issue that resonates with the public. It's their modus operandi.
Sure it dishonors the memory of those who died and what they fought for, but these groups don't actually care.
What Kushibo wrote in the above link:
"Anyway, you can see it with the Mad Cow protests. A legitimate beef (one's own government setting aside in-place safety regulations at the behest of their economically dominant ally) which reasonable people can get behind..."
Does "economically dominant" refer to the fact that South Korea has been enjoying $10 billion-plus trade surpluses with the US for many years now?
This year it's gotten even worse:

I always feel like Kushibo is a stealth nationalist, despite his attempts to appear "balanced" and "fair-minded." But, of course, as everyone knows, "stealth" Internet commentary is his "modus operandi" in more ways than one!
Perhaps "Yuna" and "User-81" might be able to fill us in on more details?
