Roboseyo appointed ATEK National Communications Officer.

A good move. From the Association for Teachers of English in Korea [ATEK] press release on April 27th:
As of a meeting last Saturday, The Association for Teachers of English in Korea (ATEK) National Council has appointed Rob Ouwehand, also known as the blogger "Roboseyo," as their new National Communications Officer.

Ouwehand, 30, now plans to use his experience with blogging, new media, collaboration and communication to help ATEK “better communicate its goals and accomplishments with the expat community.” His duties will include communicating with the press and other media, developing and maintaining communication channels with the expat community, and responding to interview requests and inquiries from other media. Ouwehand’s goals for his term include working with ATEK’s webmaster on maximizing the website’s usefulness, finding new ways to more regularly update the public on ATEK’s actions, and plotting and producing materials useful for teachers at different stages in their life in Korea, from deciding to come, arriving, and adjusting, to maximizing their experience here and contributing meaningfully in their communities.

You can read more from Rob on his site Roboseyo and on the 2S2 Community blog.

I think this is a fine addition, as long as the organization recognizes that their stumbles have not been because of communication.

Short of Kotesol, which seems not to deal with quality-of-life issues very much, ATEK is the best poised to actually make a difference, but they need to aim a bit more for the pragmatical and feasible if they really want to effect meaningful change.

Thanks for the mention, Brian.

Kushibo: I'd be interested to hear more about your assessment, and what recommendations you'd make; would you like to e-mail me at media@atek.or.kr - that's where I'll be handling ATEK stuff.

Rob

I'd like to hear how about the plans with the webmaster. I'm not saying that and being snarky: Korean web stuff interests me. On a side note (a rather important one) as of right now, whenever I try to open ATEK's site in Safari, it crashes and quits. I can't even get it open long enough to view the code.
