Congratulations, now put on our clothes.

That's Candie Kung of Taiwan wearing a traditional Korean outfit for a photo op with her award after winning the Hana Bank-Kolon Championship in Incheon. Here's another:

There are few things more delightful than having a foreigner wear hanbok. I'm not sure if the practice of making the foreign winners of a tournament wear traditional garb extends to other countries, but a quick trip through google makes it look like it's confined to South Korea. I recall Venus Williams wearing one and having the papers call her the "black pearl" (흑진주). Heh, "‘한복’입은 흑진주." From my cursory glances through the stories it doesn't look like Kung has been called "Nuprin" or anything like that yet. Puts that English-language requirement for foreign, especially Korean, LPGA golfers into perspective, doesn't it?

A Marmot's Hole commentor brings us the goofiest example of a professional athlete being made up for their award:

The Marmot's Hole also tells us that there's a racing model 서다니 who has the nickname "black pearl." I challenge you to find a worksafe picture of her.

I can't seem to find them, but there were some pretty goofy photos of one or both of the Williams sisters in Korea. They'd played in some kind of pro-am tennis tourney.

golf pros everywhere will be gunning for the Hana Bank-Kolon Championship instead of the Masters' if they get to wear that!

Green Jacket, make way for the Paisley Hanbok!

While not a sporting tournament, I do know there are pictures of Presidents Bush and Putin - along with several other national leaders - wearing the Vietnamese ao dai during an international conference. I'll let you look them up on your own, though ...
