"Koreans must take advantage of world's highest IQ," writes Korean professor.

Well, that's a line I haven't read in a little while. It's used in a new Chosun Ilbo column talking largely about the 2008 US Election, economic troubles, and Korea's role in a new world order. The conclusion:
The three theses show that the average IQs of Koreans is 106 -- second in the world. If you exclude Hong Kong, which is part of China, then Korea is virtually ranked top. The main reason why Korea, with its limited land and natural resources, was able to post exponential growth until now, was probably because of the intelligence of its people.

Yet we hear learned people making belittling comments about us. Self abasement during difficult times is like poison. During times like this, we need to strengthen ourselves with self-confidence backed by evidence. We overcame the Korean War, achieved industrialization, weathered out the Asian financial crisis, and created a knowledge-based economy. On top of that, the present cold spell is nothing compared to what we have had to endure in the past. Koreans, boasting the highest average IQ in the world, are already prepared for the era of the knowledge-based economy. If we remain confident and join hands to defeat this cold spell, then we will certainly be able to rise to the level of advanced nation status.

On the topic of elections, this is a populace that elected a president last year by the widest of margins in the country's young history and then in a matter of months sent his approval rating into single digits with wall-to-wall protests. Curious, too, how the world's smartest people can't seem to get a handle on the world's lingua franca. Well, bravo your life, Professor Hwang.

High test scores, eh? That sounds very Korean. Well, Korean students are said to be a cunning lot.

Do the Koreans take the same IQ test that everybody else takes. I would really like to see the objective stats on that one... I wonder how big the section on logic was on the test. I wonder if there was a section on creative thinking?

I don't recall much creative thought on the IQ test I took back in the day. It was more 'what will the next block / circle look like' or 'what is the next number in this sequence' sort of stuff.... The faster you finish the better your score is, supposedly. Maybe they all finished fast? More statistics would be great, though...

Siclo, what the hell are you talking about?

It's good to encourage people, but not at the expense of rendering everyone else stupid.

Check your attitude before you post here, because being rude to your host won't get you an invitation back.

The main reason why Korea has developed so quickly is because of the Japanese infrastructure and industries left behind there after 1945 coupled with extensive American assistance with the Korean economy.Without America or Japan ,Korea would not be developed in 2008 more like 2068."Intelligence of its people." Please don't try to make anyone laugh.A country like Japan developed on its own emulating western technology until its complete destruction in 1945.Development is not linked to average IQ scores, development is linked to how a government rules over a country, good economic planning, and the productivity. I am afraid to say Korea would be nothing without Japanese and American intervention. Japan on its on merit took around 140 years to get where it is today.Arguably since 1945 Japan has had extensive American assistance.Taiwan also a colony of Japan is developed today? Why? Japan built Taiwan up during the colonial years. In fact I would say the only country that has developed in Asia on it's own accord has been Singapore.

This man above sounds like Japan had greatly contributed on development of Korea. However it's not true. Because if Japan intended to develop Korea while colonization, why would there had been so many large mobs, rebellion, wars against Japanese? Plus, if Japan had developed Korea well, why was Korea so poor just after independance?
Japan didnt have any intention of developing Korea. Rather, they tried in every way to repress Korea's development. For example, Japan tried to prevent Korean building universities. In order to stop it, JP built university instead. But the university JP built had limited subjects and the students who entered there was mainly Japanese. And JP tried to teach korean only simple works. They never taught Korean high quaility techniques. The infrastructure that JP built on Korea wasnt for comfort of Korean but for interest of Japanese. For example, the railroads Japan built were constructed on the spots that made Japan comfortable. There are still bunch of facts that show how foolish it is to say 'Japan developed Korea'. This saying is what Japanese extreme right wings say in order to beautify what their ancestors did to Korea.
I know this is out of point but I couldnt stand writing it upon seeing what above man said.
