That's Jinju Lantern, Drama, Arts, festivals, silk exhibition and national sporting event.
The Arts, Drama, Lantern, and silk exhibition are all in about the same place.
A cool new thing that they have this year about the drama festival is a floating mini movie theater that they put on the river. They play Korean dramas with English subtitles, and it floats on the river, nearby that is a beer vendor. Also they have a mini movie studio where you can act out scenes from a drama, I guess they have a green screen or something and they film it for you.
Definitely get your asses down to Jinju this weekend.
Thanks for the reminder. Amended.
Just curious, is the drama one part of the Gaecheon festival?
I think they are supposed to be different festivals, but this year they just combined them all. In previous years they made the Drama festival a few weeks before all of the other festivals.
This year they took up more space on the riverside. I'm not sure but I think that the arts festival is the performing arts and exhibition part of the festival, while the lantern festival is just the lanterns in the water with a whole bunch of drunk people looking at them.
Also in the fortress in Jinju there were some art displays. I couldn't exactly tell you what the difference between the art and the floating lantern festival is, but the Drama festival in the past involved celebrity appearences (This year too, the old guy from high kick came.) and posters of dramas, this year they kicked it up a notch.
Anyway its all good, I recommend the silk expo. Jinju produces 90% of Korea's silk. Companies use the silk factories in Jinju to produce things like scarves and ties. At the silk expo you can buy ties and scarves at fairly discounted prices. Daks is a brand that they make down here. There are also a lot of Hanboks, scarves, there is one company that makes bamboo and silk socks that supposedly don't smell bad. It's all a pretty good time.
If you are in Gwangju you should not miss the GIC Day or the 7080 festival downtown.
Please be aware that the Gwangju International Food Show (광주국제식품전)has NOTHING to do with the GIC Day. It is being held at the same venue but it is simply a trade fair. Not worth the time if you are looking for foreign foods and interesting sites.
Stick to the outdoor venue at the KDJ Convention center. GIC Day is the one you want to check out.
