From Variety via
the MTV Movies Blog comes news that Warner Brothers will remake
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (복수는나의것). It's perhaps the least-known of Park Chan-wook's "Vengeance trilogy" films---
Oldboy and
Sympathy for Lady Vengeance being are the other two---which might explain why the response isn't as intense as the backlash against
2008's reported Stephen Spielberg and Will Smith
Oldboy remake was.

Yawn.. ZZzz... wake me up when this baby goes into production... otherwise, there is a whole list of stalled Korean-to-Hollywood remake projects out there...
Yeah, believe it when I see it.
If I recall, some good topless scenes by Bae Doo Na. Mmmm. I caught this one at the Seattle Film Festival back in the early 2000s. I even got to ask the director a question at the end of the showing.
There have been a number of Korean scripts optioned by Hollywood and made into movies and they've failed rather miserable. Tale of Two Sisters comes to mind. My Sassy Girl I think went straight to DVD.
Despite the complaints, I say more power to the writer who can maybe get 6 figures out of a producer for his script. Who wouldn't sell out?
Don't think it's a remake...
Indeed, Puffin Watch, a good chance to see Pae Tuna on top.
What did you ask the director?
I think it was something like "Most directors cast Bae Doo Na in roles where she plays cute, positive characters, what made you pick her to play a child kidnapper?"
Nice question.
The American version of My Sassy Girl is far superior to its Korean original. No doubt about it. This version actually makes sense.
Its a shame that the movie went straight to DVD. I rather enjoyed the American version. Just bought a bootleg of the Japanese TV show, so I'm eager to compare it to the other two versions.
I never understood why MSG would need to be remade. What? Its a quirky, independent gal who goes after what she wants. ie. a modern girl, an american lady. MSG break socai;l norms in asia but not in the US, so...
old boy? mr v? i think those movies did well because theyre asia and have that vibe, but i dont think us audiences will like them. Japanese have tons of those kinds of movies, but they never really get overseas, except to a small audience.
also: isnt oldboy a japanese comic anyway? the 1st and 3rd of those series were written by the producer? no?
