Dismembered dog in a basket.
And Christ, this is really an unfortunate headline from the Joongang Ilbo. Because, as you probably know, another dish historically considered good for one's health during the summer's hottest days has, of course, been dog soup.

And yet... can't we all just get along?
Hanging a dog truly sucks (couldn't see that from the video, but was impressed by the Mokpo guy's Korean and disdain).
But I don't see the difference between a dog and a pig if we're just talking about meat humans eat.
No butchered animal looks cute.
If you eat animal meat, you just have to come to terms with the fact it didn't die a happy death.
Again, the hanging thing blows...

1) In China, where dogs are also considered to be edible animals, not pets, they are eaten in the winter in order to "heat" the body. I guess Boshintang is like a thermos... keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter (Oh, my... v. off-colour joke there... please don't tell anyone I said that...)
2) The difference between consuming dogs and pigs generally has to do with the way the animal is raised and cared for, and the way it is slaughtered.
Factory farming in North America, for all its downsides, is still far more hygienic and humane than raising an animal on a 6-inch lease or in a filthy cage with its own feces, beating it when it makes noise, feeding it rotten food and providing water sporadically, then beating it to death (boshintang dogs *must* be beaten according to Korean tradition - the more the animal suffers, the more endorphins, the better the effect of the meat - i.e. to give you a big manly erection).
I agree fully with Ms. Parker.
I often wonder how many of the animal activist are as active in their own countries
I really would not agree that factory farming in the western world is more hygienic nor more human.
I think the difference is our eatable animals are classed as livestock there for there are inspectors ment to check that regulations are met.
Dog is not live stock in korea so there are no regulations and there for no inspectors . I strongly disagree with the beating to torture of animal.
But I do believe each country have different limits to what they eat.
Koreans can eat dog just make it livestock so they can try and prevent beatings and cruelty with large fines for such behavior .
I have been to pig farms and they are disgusting. Really disgusting and regulations dont give a fully grown pig as much space as a dog in a cage.
We should be more active and out spoken in our own countries
