In an earlier draft of this post I wasn't that pleased about this newest addition to the Suncheon dining experience---which already includes "familiy restaurants" like Joy's, Outback, Samba Samba, and Ashley---and wrote:
I've been there once in 30 months, and I guess it's okay, but like with all western family restaurants here, I consider it just another place to spend $30 on something that'd cost $6 back home. I don't know who I have to screw around here to get a Burger King in town, but if it's Ha Ji-won, I'll do it.
Actually, I was at Sizzler before, not VIPS, so there goes my whole first draft. Shame I can't use that Ha Ji-won line now, though.
What I do find really amusing is that a few blocks away there is a WIPS family restaurant, and there's another one on the way. Looking at the WIPS menu, though, I see there's not a fucking thing there I'd put in my mouth.

cheers for the links. I for one will try out some Wips this weekend. Like ur blog a lot.
That Wips is hilarious. I'd love to see the father that took his family there.
I went to Marche in Ulsan last night...its part of the Outback/Bennigans family.
That's all I'll say.
VIPs is horribly over-priced like all Western family restaurants in Korea but is actually not too bad. There used to be one near my house when I lived in Gwangju.
Much better than Outback where I can literally feel my arteries clogging with every extra bite.
Yeah, I don't think I'd mind going there, at least once. I haven't been to a Western family restaurant in about 13 months. They usually have decent enough buffets. I haven't been to Outback in two years, and wasn't that impressed with it, especially for what I was paying.
I could really go for a decent sandwich shop like Quiznos or Subway, though. The ones around here are edible, and I'll go on occassion, but I want to buy a sandwich I can't eat in four bites.
My inlaws took me to VIPS in Gwangju this past month. I thought it was cute how they called it "beeps", since there's no V sound in Korean.
Hey, do you have any links for good maps for Yeosu and Suncheon. I just bought a motorbike and i'm heading to Suncheon tomorrow, i have a faint idea where i'm going but if you could help me out i'd really appreciate it!
Cheers,
Aaron
I don't have any good links to maps on hand, Aaron.
If you can type or read Korean, Naver.com will help you. If there are two places you'd like to go---Yeosu Station and, say, Seonamsa temple---you can start on 여수역 and end with 선암사 and get directions. But if you can't navigate Korean or don't have a printer, it's not worth it.
Maybe other bikers have some links, but the best road maps I've seen have been in travel atlases available at bookstores. I recommend picking one up. Again, they're in Korean, but you should be able to figure it out.
Good luck.
