A taxi driver has confessed to raping and killing a 24-year-old passenger in Cheongju, North Chungcheong, last weekend, and police said on Tuesday that he is linked to two unsolved murder and rape cases in the area.
Police said the driver, a 41-year-old man surnamed Ahn, is an ex-convict who served two and a half years in jail for rape a decade ago. He was detained by police on Tuesday.
Some of the English-language articles mention a story out of Gwangju in December. From the Times:
Another taxi driver, Kim, 55, was caught last December for strangling a passenger to death and abandoning her body in southern city of Gwangju.
No mention in the English-language media turns up prior to a recap in January of crimes against women. She was picked up in Chipyeong-dong, in the area generally known as Sangmu, and was dumped near Naju Lake.

I'm so tired of reading about these constant sexual assaults! Isn't it time that Korea just got rid of all of these native speakers once and for all? I mean is learning English so important that the nation's women must be continually raped and the children abandoned??
Throw out the native speakers now! How many more of these incidents must occur before action is taken against them?
bahz you are either an idiot or don't read English-ee very well. The Taxi driver was Korean. Most of the crime in Korea is committed by . . . Koreans. My gf actually has been stalked by Korean men and incidentally was picked up in a taxi by a strange sexually forward taxi driver in Cheongju. Maybe Korea should stop being a boy's club and join the 21st century.
Dude,
I think bahz is just pulling your leg. Lighten up. Find a sense of humor somewhere.
Keepin' it Real - until you English teachers acknowledge your crimes committed against the people of the Republic of Korea (for example, brutal rape of children like Na-Young) and spreading AIDS (like other foreign English teacher taxi driver) you will never be forgiven for your war crimes against Koreans, artificially dividing the nation, killing innocents at No-gun-ri, failing my cousin on his English mid-term, etc.
As for your girlfriend, of course she misunderstands the culture of Korean men showing only kindness and good will and intentionally provokes a "culture clash" with her arrogant foreignness. Besides only following your girlfriend around while she does her shopping and then back to her home to make sure her address matches the one on her alien registration is hardly "stalking."
Yeah I think Bahz was using satire (well done).
Seriously, the government should be profoundly EMBARRASED and ashamed. It's difficult to get a quality English teacher to come and stay here (after the mountain of paperwork) and yet...people with criminal records can drive a taxi (a public service).
I heard you can "rent" a taxi and pretend to be a driver for about 100 000 w a day. To be honest, the company owners should get sued and go to jail if they hire a high risk offender. Who rents out a cab anyway?
Hope those rapists rot in hell...
it was april fools. can't a girl have any fun?
I have met some real greaseball taxi Kisahs..but Ive met some really cool guys too. An ex DJ, a musician, a scholar of Chinese, some great English speakers, etc. People got to make a living, but it is a bit scarier if youre a lady, I get it.
I always have to watch the meter and the road, but thats true in every country.
i had a douche this am. didnt want to go where i told him. argued with me all the way, couldnt get out either, then swore at me...i just told him he was pitiful and walked before he could retort.
