Mariah Carey lip synched her songs at a popular Korean live music TV show, disappointing fans and raising a stir on the Internet.
The 39-year-old singer, who is visiting Seoul to promote her 12th album, appeared on ``You Hee-yeol's Sketchbook'' set, a popular live music show hosted by You, Tuesday evening.
From her recent album ``The Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel,'' she performed two tracks, ``I Want to Know What Love Is'' and ``H.A.T.E.U.,'' but instead of singing live as many anticipated, she lip synched both of them in front of an audience who packed the studio.
Disappointing that an international singer would pull that crap, but, well, when in Rome . . .

At least she wouldn't have sounded terrible, like a lot of k-pop acts do when they're live - it just sounds like noraebang.
What's the point of her coming if she's going to lip-sync? The show she was on 'Sketchbook', singers always sing live.Idol singers sing live with heavy background vocals but the ones with actual talent always sing live...I would've been upset too to go see someone like Mariah Carey singing live. And most KPOP acts sing live these days...they're all scared of the netizens.... lol

I had pretty much the opposite reaction.
Are we to imply that k-pop performers EVER sing live? I'm admittedly not a k-pop fan, but out of curiosity I have occasionally watched performances on TV, and every single one was obviously lip-synced. Everyone knows the performers aren't there because of talent. Mariah Carey, on the other hand, really can sing, so I don't think they have the right to criticize.
Most of the K-pop performances I see on TV are lip-synched. Thing about Carey is, doing something like this would be career suicide back home, so why pull it here? Maybe she just figured everyone else does it here, or maybe she didn't understand the show she was going to be on, or maybe she was just being her diva self and said to hell with what everyone else wants.
not ALL k-pop acts lip-sync. DBSK is almost always live from what I've seen. but she should have just gone acoustic and done it live. her fans in Korea are not less important than her US fans. and if she doesn't realize that, she's one dumb bunny.
Mariah Carey has never struck me as smart or down-to-earth.
She probably did it because her voice wasn't in the best shape. I saw her interviewed on TV this morning and she sounded absolutely horrible speaking.
