Kim Yuna complains about Japanese skaters ruining her practices.

Japan Probe brings us news from SBS and from Japanese outlets that figure skater Kim Yuna has claimed Japanese skaters have repeatedly disturbed her practices and interfered with her routines.
Kim claimed that Japanese figure skaters have repeatedly disturbed her practice jumps when they have shared ice rink space for pre-competition work-outs. Apparently only Japanese skaters would get in her way, and it really got on her nerves.

Perhaps Japanese skaters have been messing with Kim on purpose. Or perhaps Kim really is whining (not outside the realm of possibility). Or perhaps it's yet another attempt on the part of the Korean media to turn the natural rivalry with Japanese skaters into a matter of national pride.

* Update: Well, commentor Michael has posted this video in the comment section, showing other skaters getting in Kim's way during practice. It's pretty damning evidence. I wonder why her manager hasn't spoken up more loudly about this, and whether judges or officials are also watching warm-ups. You'd think they'd warn and penalize repeat offenders like this. The Penguins signed Georges Laraque to deal with this kind of riff-raff messing around with Sidney Crosby, maybe Kim should consider an enforcer as well.

It's because she wears a Dokdo t-shirt during practice.

Isn't she still in Toronto? or maybe in Calgary?

I found it--it was during the championships in Vancouver, Canada, this February.

You probably need to see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6bk9ig_ss0

Especially from around 3:15 or so, including after 6:30, it does look like some skaters are deliberately getting in her way. Some of them seeming to go out of their way to get in her way.

But of course, with clever editing, I could make Yuna look like Hitler, so who knows? The melodramatic music distracts from the point, though.

I was impressed with the editing and melodramatic music. I was especially with the comments on youtube about the lack of sportsmanship from the Japanese. At first I thought it was an attempt to be ironic.

You probably need to see the following video clip too. Yuna happened to obstruct the warm-ups of Miki Ando and Yukari Nakano during their warm-up time.

Perhaps the fact is that these events are not uncommon during warm-ups in figure skating.

What does this have to do with Japanese government, or Tokto?

As someone with a background as both a competitive figure skater and a coach, let me just tell you that this whole issue is simply ridiculous. I actually can't believe that Kim would say something as stupid as this to the media... very disappointed in her. With several skaters on the ice at the same time going at high speeds these things are bound to happen, and they do, all the time, without anyone having any kind of malicious intent. The rink is just not that big! Anyone who's ever skated competitively knows this, hence my disappointment in Kim and my continuing astonishment at Koreans' fragile national egos... Yes, Koreans, the Japs are out to get you everywhere and anytime so paranoia is justifiable! PUH-LEEES....

This is not the first time the japanese skaters have been accused of this. They simply can't compete straight up. Outclassed and desperate.

I think you got this all wrong.
Yuna Kim NEVER specified who was interfering with the practice.
She never mentioned anything about the Japanese skaters in the interview. She's not that stupid, come on!
It was the news that added the "Japanese skater" part to hype up the whole situation.

LOLOL jeez....I agree with p-in-k ~ as a former figure skater...this stuff happens all the time....I just ignore it....There was a girl who TOTALLY didn't have to step in my landing spot, but she did a bielman spin right there...i just proceeded to do my double axel and land it in her face (she hadn't landed her's yet). anyway....it happens so often...im actually shocked Yuna would say something like this....

@p-in-k: I agree that this may be a trivial matter and Yuna Kim could have handled this more professionally, but to overgeneralize and say that Korean's have a fragile ego, that the Japanese are out to get us is pretty damn racist of you.

It's like saying that all white people are oppressive and racist or that black people are only good for basketball and rapping. (but I do admit they rap pretty damn well though.)
